The Minamiza Theater has perhaps Kyoto’s best red paper lanterns. They are massive, vividly colored objects you can walk right up to on Shijo Avenue, which runs through the Gion geisha quarter. The theater hosts kabuki theater and other cultural events. In the background is what I believe to be an advertisement for a kabuki performance. And in the bottom right corner you can see part of the conveniently located entrance to a subway station.
