It’s perfectly common for delivery people to leave their work vehicles running while they hop off to hand over a package. It’s also not uncommon to see customers at convenience stores leave their cars—even luxury vehicles—running while they go in for a purchase, especially if the weather is very hot or cold. Having grown up in the U.S., I would never be comfortable with leaving my car so vulnerable to thieves. I even move my bags to the trunk where they can’t be seen to reduce the chance that someone might break the window to steal them. I’ve lived nearly half my life in Japan, but there are some things about me that will probably never change.
配達員が荷物を渡す間、仕事用の原付をエンジンかけぱなし行ってくることはよう見るね。高級車に乗っているコンビニの顧客さえやるねん！アメリカ人として考えられへんことや。だって自分は、誰かが窓を割って盗む可能性が減るように、バッグをトランクに移す。人生の半分近くを日本で暮らしているけど、おそらくこれからも性格は変わらないとこがいくつかあんねん。
